Suresh Kumar Raina was the youngest among the five children in his family. He was born in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh on November 27,1987.He joined the Government sports college in 1999 at the age of 12.
He became the captian of the under-16 Uttar Pradesh team.
In the under-19 world cup, he was impressive, scoring three half centuries including a terrific innings of 90 runs from 38 balls.
In 2005, he made his first class limited overs debut and scored 645 runs in his first season at an average of 53.75.
